Abby Wambach pleads guilty to DUII, will enter diversion program

PORTLAND, Ore. —
Retired soccer star Abby Wambach has pleaded guilty to a DUII in Portland and entered a diversion program, according to court documents.
Wambach, 35, was pulled over at SW 14th Avenue and Yamhill Street after she ran a red light at SW 13th Avenue and Taylor Street earlier this month.
Wambach failed field a sobriety test and was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) - Alcohol. Her blood alcohol content was .13 percent, above the state's limit of .08 percent.
According to court documents obtained by KATU News, Wambach pleaded guilty Tuesday afternoon and her 1-year diversion is effective immediately.
Wambach is the leading career scorer - male or female - in international soccer with 184 career goals. She retired in December after 15 years with the U.S. women's national team.
